Our Story

From the Big XII to Forever

Even though Sarah was born and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, she found herself a Jayhawk fan fairly early on. She was fascinated by Larry Brown's spectacle collection and the fact that he could take a string of so-called B Players and turn them into an A Team. When she began looking at MBA programs, she was drawn to the Big XII for it's competitiveness, school spirit and challenging academics. It was no surprise that in Fall 2009 she found herself moving to Lawrence, Kansas to don the Crimson and Blue of KU. Danny spent his childhood cheering for Black and Gold, so there was a bit of a shock when he changed his allegiance from Black to Cardinal. But for an aspiring engineer, there was no better choice than ISU, and one that would ultimately lead him to his future bride. As a freshmen, Danny was assigned to Roberts Hall where he encountered four rowdy guys that would become lifelong, ISU die-hard friends. Years would pass, but in time an annual trip to Kansas City for the Big XII Men's Basketball Tournament would ensue. Each year, they head down I-35 to cheer for their boys. Routines can be funny that way. For the five years leading up to when they met, Sarah and Danny's lives would circle one another, often during the month of March where they might easily be frequenting the same bars, watching the same games, but never cheering for the same team. Some call it fate. Others call it chance. Most just call it user error. Sarah and Danny call it God's perfect timing. On March 11, 2018, a couple of strangers swapped stories over biscuits and gravy at Happy Gillis in Kansas City. God had intertwined two independent childhoods spanning 1,000 miles at just the right time when the possibility of 'what if' felt like a chance worth taking. And if all else failed, they would at least know they would always agree on red.
