How We Met

It all started six years ago--

It was Kendra's first day at Hermon High School in January 2017. Steven walked up and introduced himself, among whom he would become her first friend in the school. Up until graduation in 2018, Steven and Kendra remained friends through various outings with mutual friends. Afterwards, Steven and Kendra parted ways, as she traveled south to attend Regent University in Virginia for a year, and he began school locally at Husson. Despite the distance, every time Kendra returned home throughout the year, Steven would always make it a point to visit her. During the summer of 2019, as the two prepared to start school as college sophomores, Kendra decided to transfer back home to Husson. As the two prepared to begin the school year, Kendra and Steven began to spend time together regularly. On August 26, 2019, Steven expressed to Kendra that he had feelings for her, but that he was not ready to begin a relationship until he was able to confidently be the boyfriend that he knew she needed. The two continued to grow closer to one another throughout the school year, and on February 29, 2020, Steven finally asked Kendra to make things official between the two of them. As the next three years went on, the two grew closer to the Lord and to each other, having lots of adventures and fun during the process!

The Proposal

The story that honestly describes the nature of our relationship--

In December 2022, Kendra traveled with Steven's family to Florida for a Christmas vacation! On Christmas eve night, after the two had walked 13 miles in Disney World that day, Steven asked Kendra if she would go on a walk around the beautiful resort that they were staying. Kendra declined, as she felt as if she could not physically walk another step. The next evening, Steven attempted a second time to ask Kendra if she would go on a walk with him, but her response was the same as the first night. On December 26, after another long day of walking, Steven attempted for a third time-- only this time, he offered to take her to the hot tubs to soak their aching feet. Kendra finally agreed, and the two began to explore the resort. Every hot tub was full of people, so Steven led her to continue exploring the resort-- Kendra, nearly unable to take a step without Steven pulling her. Eventually, Steven led Kendra to a beautiful trellis with marquee lights strung above, overlooking the water, with the reflection of Christmas lights strung around the palm trees facing ahead of them. It was a 45-degree night, the heaters were shut off, and the firepit was temporarily out of order! Despite this fact, Steven turned toward Kendra and pulled out his Nana's ring, looped around his Papa's dog tags that he had been wearing throughout the week. Steven got down on one knee at this moment, losing his balance during the process, and asked Kendra if she would marry him as they laughed throughout the moment... she said "yes!"

The Future

2023 is a big year!

In May 2023, Steven will be graduating from Husson University with his master's in business administration and sport management degree, while Kendra will be graduating with her master's degree in occupational therapy! Kendra plans to take her board exam in June, and the two will be preparing for entrance into their future careers together. No matter where the Lord leads them, the two are ready to take on this next season of life together!
