South Congress is an iconic street in Austin that leads up to the Texas State Capitol. It's known for shopping, sightseeing, good food, and street vendors. It's definitely worth a visit if you're new in town!
Lady Bird Lake, also known as Town Lake or the Colorado River, is the focal point of the city. It runs directly through Austin, and is in the backyard of the Four Seasons hotel, where our wedding will take place. There is a scenic walking/hiking/biking trail that surrounds the lake as well as plenty of activities on the water, including boating, paddle boarding, and kayaking.
The Texas State Capitol is a historic landmark in the heart of the city. The grounds surrounding it are beautiful and open to the public. It's taller than the US Capitol, giving truth to the phrase "Everything is Bigger in Texas".
Austin is home to the state's premier public university, the University of Texas at Austin (sorry Aggies). Most importantly, this is Abby's Alma Mater, so we are certainly not biased in the slightest. The campus is a pleasure to explore, and we highly recommend checking out the UT Tower!
Zilker Park is large metropolitan park just south of the city. It's home to multiple picnic areas, volleyball courts, and a disc golf course. The park is home to one of Austin's most popular yearly attractions, Austin City Limits, a sprawling music festival that brings in about 450,000 people over two weekends each year.
Kerbey Lane Cafe is an Austin classic. Whether you're looking for a brunch spot or a place to satisfy your 2 AM queso craving, Kerbey Lane is the place to go for comfort food 24 hours a day! Yes that's right they never close. They have many locations around the city that are equally delicious. If you check it out, don't forget to try the Kerbey Queso.
Jo's is a great spot to grab your morning coffee and breakfast taco. The South Congress location is home to the famous "I love you so much" mural, but there is also a Jo's location right downtown next to the Four Seasons Hotel where the wedding is located.
Matt's El Rancho, otherwise known as "Matt's", is Abby's favorite "tex-mex" restaurant in the city. It's a must visit if you're looking for some great tex-mex!
Franklin Barbecue is one of Austin's best BBQ places. It's incredibly popular, so if you're planning a visit, make sure to go as early as possible, and expect to wait in line.
Historic Sixth Street is an Austin staple with tons of bars, restaurants, and live music to explore day or night! Every weekend, the street is so active with nightlife and foot traffic that police barricades are placed to prevent cars from accessing the road. If you go at night, check out Pete's Dueling Piano Bar!
Rainey street is a fun walkable area known for its quirky bars and food trucks. Conveniently located just a couple blocks away from the wedding. Check out the adult slide at Unbarlievable, or grab brunch and a "man-mosa" at Banger's!
