Told by the bride: It all started in September 1996 at John Dewey High School. Although I wanted to go to Clara Barton High School, fate had other plans. It was freshman year and Steve could not keep his eyes off me. Although he was handsome, I always kept my cool. We eventually became friends and spoke often. During the summer of 1997 he told me that he planned to transfer to Midwood High School. I was disappointed at the thought that I would never see him again. To my surprise, on the first day of Sophomore year, there he was at the locker bay with his gorgeous smile and a fresh pair of Jordans. He eventually mustered up the courage to ask if I would be his girlfriend. I accepted and we have been together ever since.
Steve and I had plans to attend his job’s annual Christmas party on December 15, 2007. While picking me up from the nail salon, he said he needed to make a quick stop. I noticed we were driving up to John Dewey’s campus. I could not help but wonder why we were there. So many thoughts ran through my mind. Steve proceeded to get out of the car and asked me to come with him. Reluctantly, I followed his lead. He looked me in the eyes as he got down on one knee on the wet grass. He said he fell in love with me years ago and wanted me to be his wife. I was speechless, but after catching my breath, I said yes.
