How We Met

August 2010

It was the first day of freshman year at CU Boulder. Steph was waiting outside the rec center for her friends to go to the freshman welcome party. Soon her good high school buddy, Tommy Marlier, walked up and introduced her to his new random roommate. That roommate was Dillon.

The Proposal

October 2021

Dillon told Steph he was going to Boulder to check out his office on Pearl Street and to take pictures of his mom's new place that was being built. He said he was going to take the dog and make a day of it knowing Steph would eventually invite herself. She did. It happened to be a game day, so they put on their matching Buff shirts and decided to walk the campus with their dog Winston. Steph had many suspicions, but after checking her best friends locations and seeing they were in Denver where they said they were, she started to loosen up. They walked the entire campus and right past the place they met. Then, just as Steph was doubted everything, Dillon stopped and said, "It's not a ring, so I don't want your stomach to drop, but I got you a little gift to let you know I love you and I have a plan for a proposal. I am working on it, so thank you for being patient." He gave Steph a little silver chain and she was ecstatic. Although it wasn't what Steph was hoping for, she was very excited to know an engagement was in the near future. She smiled all the way back to field behind the business school where they were going to play fetch with Winston. They found an open spot and instead of pulling Winston's ball out of the bag, Dillon pulled out a ring. He got her good! He proposed and they celebrated with his step sister and her husband who were hiding at someone's tailgate with a camera and champagne. Later that night, Dil told Steph he was taking her to her favorite restaurant and some of her close friends would meet them there. As she walked up to a long line, Dillon grabbed her shoulders, turned her around and said, "Just kidding! We're actually going here." Across the street were their closest friends and family on a rooftop with a giant sign saying CONGRATS! They partied the night away and into the next day with another celebration on the pickleball courts and then Steph's parent's house with even more food, drinks and friends. It was a weekend to remember.
