An Igba Nkwu is a traditonal engagement ceremony celebrated by the Igbo people of Nigeria. The grooms family will present gifts to the brides family. Kola nuts, a symbol of hospitality and unity, are presented and broken during the ceremony. The highlight of the ceremony is the wine carrying, where the bride must search for her future husband who is hiding amongst the crowd and offer him a cup of palm wine. “Spraying” is another highlight of a Nigerian reception, and involves guests spraying the couple with cash as a way to shower them with blessings. Traditional Nigerian and Jamaican food will be served. We look forward to celebrating with you all! Watch this video to see more on what to expect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0MOaXSqpo0
While traditional Nigerian attire is strongly preferred, guests have the option to wear cocktail attire as well. We appreciate and value the cultural significance of traditional attire but understand that not everyone may have access or feel comfortable wearing such garments. We want everyone to feel at ease and enjoy the celebration! Aso-ebi is a cherished tradition that adds a touch of elegance and unity to wedding celebrations. It involves selecting a specific fabric and color that the immediate families of the bride and groom wear on the special day, allowing them to stand out visually from other friends, family members, and well-wishers. Additionally, the entourage accompanying the bride and groom also adorns stunning aso-ebi outfits. For guests choosing to take part in the tradition, we are offering the opportunity to purchase fabrics for the ceremony. Guests not wearing the aso-ebi, may chose to wear the colors of the day, green and gold.
