We both swiped right. Ben's cheesy pickup line miraculously worked. After a few weeks of chatting we met on our first date at The Abbey in Brookline, MA. Steph embarrassingly ordered a Bud Light, Ben embarrassingly copied her burger order, and the rest is history.
We met in Boston and spent 2.5 years doing T rides back and forth between downtown Boston and Cambridge. Steph moved to Evanston, IL for 2 years to pursue her MBA from Kellogg, and Ben was kind enough to frequently take the 5am flight out to visit her for long weekends. After graduation and with a job offer in Oakland we made the move to the bay area where we have been living in San Francisco for the last 2+ years.
We escaped the city for a weekend getaway to Paso Robles and Santa Barbara. On our last evening in SB, Ben floated the idea of going to iconic Butterfly Beach to watch the sunset before dinner. Of course right before sundown a thick fog covering rolled in almost ruining the plan, but just as we pulled up to the beach the sky cleared and the sunset was beautiful. Steph should have known something was up given that Ben had to attempt 3 times before successfully parallel parking the car (talk about being nervous!). After a sandy stroll down the beach past all the crowds, Ben popped the question.
