It was freshman year of college and Josh was asleep at 5 in the morning when there was a loud banging on the door. Josh's roommate Logan had promised to go run a 5k with a friend and was sound asleep -- late. Josh yelled at Logan to get the door, but no dice. Begrudgingly, Josh got up and opened the door for the person who would eventually become the love of his life, Alana. In this moment, Josh wanted to go back to bed. So he did. A year later Josh went with his roommate and some of his friends to a quarry to go diving. After diving for a while, Josh started talking to that person who woke him up too early a year ago and swam across the quarry. After a few days of exchanging what some would consider top-tier puns through texting, the two went to a concert together in Nashville and started what would become an amazing relationship.
In our sophomore year of college at University of Tennessee, Abigail (Bridesmaid) and I had just moved into our first apartment. We decided to invite some friends over for a potluck dinner. We invited Logan (Best Man) and his roommate Josh, who said he would bring dessert. Josh made a mouthwateringly delicious blueberry nectarine cobbler with amaretto cookie crust. He even left the dish with the remaining cobbler so we could have the leftovers. I was in love (with his cooking!) A few days later, I texted Josh to let him know that we had emptied and cleaned his baking dish and spoon. Josh came by to pick up the dishes, and we ended up talking for a while. The only problem was that when he left he forgot his dish! I messaged Josh again, and he came by a few days later to pick up his dishes. He came by and we ended up talking again. It got late and he wanted coffee, so he went to his apartment downstairs and made a cup of coffee, bringing it back up with him. We talked some more, and he headed home. The next morning, I woke up to the smell of stale coffee and realized he left his coffee mug. I washed it and messaged him again. Josh “forgot” his coffee cup in our apartment about five times. Before long we had started dating, and I let him know that he could just message me to hang out, but I was tired of hand washing his dishes in my apartment sink.
I started teaching Josh how to ski in college in Gatlinburg, but after we moved to Sacramento, Josh and I finally got to spend more time skiing at Lake Tahoe. In February of 2020, we went to Heavenly ski resort for a long weekend. Our previous trip, Josh had finally made it to the top of the mountain, and he was excited to go back up to the top. On our first day, we skied up to the top and stopped to look at the scenic overlook which we had all to ourselves. Josh took his skis and goggles off to look around, but I left mine on as the powder was good and I was excited to ski more. While we were looking at the view, Josh began to say lots of very sweet things to me, and I tried to steal a kiss, but he just kept on talking. He started to fall in his ski boots, so I quickly hugged him to keep him from falling. It wasn’t until he got to the end of what he was saying, when he said, “Will you marry me?” that I realized he was proposing. I couldn’t believe it, and as soon as I moved my head I noticed he had been holding out a gorgeous ring the entire time that I hadn’t seen because of my ski goggles. I said yes, and we skied down the mountain with giant smiles on our faces. I couldn’t stop smiling even when my mouth started getting cold. We had a nice lunch looking out at Lake Tahoe, and I found out that apparently he hadn’t been falling, but trying to get on one knee, but I pulled him up…oops!
