Question

Travelling to Varna

Answer

There are several options how to get to Varna. 1. Direct flights from London Luton Airport to Varna Airport. These are operated by WizzAir. Stanislava uses this route most commonly as it lands directly in Varna. At the moment, this is the only airline which offers direct flights from London to Varna. 2. Flights from UK to Sofia. Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria and so, unlike with Varna, there are more airlines which operate flights from the UK to Sofia. Examples include, Ryainair, WizzAir, British Airways, Bulgaria Air, EasyJet. This might be a good option for those who wish to visit the capital as well, and oftentimes flights to Sofia might be more affordable. Ryanair offers flights from both Bristol and London. Afterwards, from Sofia you can take a direct flight to Varna, which takes about 40-50mins. The flights are operated by Bulgaria Air and there are usually 2-3 flights a day. Previously, WizzAir used to offer Sofia-Varna as well. Alternatively, you can take a bus which takes about six hours; or a train which takes longer, but there are usually sleeping coaches. 3. Flights to Bucharest, Romania. In some instances, it might also be more affordable and there might be more flight days and times to go to Bucharest. Moreover, Bucharest is also a lovely city to visit, mostly because Radu was born there! Airlines which operate flights include Ryanair, WizzAir, British Airways; and you can fly from London Stansted, Gatwick or Luton. Ryanair offers flights from Bristol too. You can then take a bus to Varna, which takes about 4 hours. If you have further questions or need help with something, please let us know.

Question

Getting to town from the airport

Answer

The closest airport is Varna Airport. Transport is very straightforward - you can either take the bus number 409, which will cost you 2 leva (I think) and will probably take you about 30mins to take you to the ideal centre of Varna. Or you can take a taxi. There are several taxi companies that we would recommend, so if you need some help with organising your transfer, please let us know.

Question

Transport on the day

Answer

We will organise transport on the day - i.e., from wherever you are in the morning - to the Cathedral and then to Balchik. In this way, everyone will travel together and nobody will be lost or wondering where to go. Some of you have said that you would like to have a holiday in Varna and spend some time there, so if you are staying in Varna, the organised transport can take you back to the city in the evening after the wedding.

Question

Wedding gift

Answer

Your presence at our wedding is most important, but, should you wish to honour us with a gift as well, a cash gift to put towards our dream home would be greatly appreciated.

Question

Colour theme of the wedding

Answer

The wedding colours will (probably) be: white, champagne/cream, and green. But please do not feel obliged to wear these colours, wear the colours that you feel comfortable in; there is no strict dress code (obvs no swimwear though, please).

Question

Dietary requirements

Answer

Please, let us know about your dietary requirements as soon as you accept the invite. If you have any other questions regarding the logistics, let us know.

Question

How to be a prepared guest?

Answer

In Bulgaria, we usually dance the so-called 'horo' dance in which we hold hands together and perform rhythmic steps and moves. As you know, Stanislava is a Lecturer and for that reason she has prepared a 'reading' list for you. Here are a few links of the simplest dances you can expect on the day and which you can learn ahead so that you can then show off your amazing skills. Some of the videos are in English, some only in Bulgarian, but they are all showing the steps slowly. 1. Pravo horo (literally 'straight' horo) - the easiest one of all, the one we will certainly dance, probably more than once. So make this your absolute priority!: https://youtu.be/ueLhAxJ6Ndg?feature=shared (in English) https://youtu.be/0iKC8UIRmFE?feature=shared (in Bulgarian) Depending on the pace of the music, the steps can be performed slower and faster. 2. Gankino horo - together with the Pravo, this is the other most popular dance. This video is actually in English: https://youtu.be/H6mNUlrNZyk?feature=shared That should also be on your priority dance list Further (optional) learning: 3. Daichovo horo - the count of the steps is 1-2-3-4, there are four beats, so four times 1-2-3-4 so fairly easy as well https://youtu.be/ANbvAg_K8jw?feature=shared https://youtu.be/hx8omyfwlcA?feature=shared 4. Elenino horo - ok, so I'd be super impressed to see you guys dance this, as this is the most challenging one of the four, but also my favourite. https://youtu.be/htE4psC81IU?feature=shared Note - we always start with the right foot, to the right.
