Sarah and Spencer originally met over 15 years ago at a mutual friend's Sweet 16 birthday party but both went on to live separate lives for the next decade. Spencer spent his time traveling the world and teaching English while Sarah moved to Cleveland for her career (yes, one is way cooler than the other). They watched each other live their lives via Instagram and by a chance of fate, both Sarah and Spencer happened to be home in Pittsburgh for the same week in September of 2019 and reconnected for their first official date. Spencer already had plans and signed contracts to teach English in China beginning in January of 2020. Because of this, Sarah thought that was that and they were parting ways for good. She went back to Cleveland and he went to China. However, Covid lockdowns started around the world and Sarah and Spencer began routinely FaceTiming. He would tell her about the craziness of living in China at that time and she would tell him the latest drama from The Bachelor (again, one is way cooler than the other). He mailed her gifts monthly and she tried very hard to not crush on someone who was 8,000 miles away. After a year of late night and early morning FaceTime calls, Spencer was faced with the difficult decision of continuing teaching for another year or coming home. Sarah secretly hoped he would come home but knew there was a very real possibility of never seeing him again. But as you may have guessed, he chose to come home and she sighed the biggest sigh of relief ever documented in human history. They both knew early on that this time around would be serious and after a few years of officially dating, Spencer proposed on their trip to the Amalfi Coast, which Sarah still cannot believe is real life.
