Our first memories of each other....We grew up only a mile apart, and part of our walking route home from middle school was along the same street. We each had our group of friends who we would walk home with, and in true middle school fashion, we would be laughing and joking about the school day, until we saw the other group, and walk in complete silence on opposite sides of the road from each other. Now these days, we look back at these awkward walks home from school as a fond first memory.
Now we each have a different memory of how this went down. A few years into our relationship someone had asked us what was our first date, Simone blurted out "remember when you hit that skateboarder with your car?!", Spencer states that in fact the skateboard ran into the stationary car...Nevertheless, the skateboarder was perfectly fine and we went on to enjoy a lovely walk and talk around Tryon Creek.
After we celebrated our second year anniversary, I got a travel bug and started to look for cheap flights anywhere outside of the country, a few months later we found an amazing deal on tickets to Germany and just before we started college in the fall we were set to spend two and half weeks in Germany and Switzerland. Now at this point we had been on a few weekend trips together, and since we went to different colleges and were doing long distance, we had never spent that many days together consecutively. I was so nervous in preparation for this trip - this was going to be the test. We had an amazing time - and if you can believe not one disagreement or argument arose (maybe we can thank that to the liters and liters of beer we were consuming each day ;) ) But that's how I knew he was the one, frolicking around in the Swiss countryside, and having liter beer drinking contests by night.
It was pretty early in our relationship, maybe the first or second year we were together. One day Simone calls me sobbing because Taylor Swift had postponed an album or a concert. I knew in that moment that this woman had such an incredible capacity to care. She has a very big heart and isn't shy to to express herself. I knew that if she could feel that deeply about a concert that she would always fiercely defend her loved ones.
Christmas eve in front of the fireplace surrounded by family. Picture perfect!! We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Gearhart!
