Sidney and Case began their life long journey together starting senior year of high school at Highland Park. Being the romantic that he is, Case would bring Sidney breakfast as often as he possibly could before class and during prep-rallies. Nothing says, "I love you" like a Chicken Mini meal from Chick-fil-A. After numerous dates and getting polite nudges from Sidney's friends, Case worked up the courage to finally ask Sidney to be his girlfriend at Lakeside Park on October 3rd, 2014. The two were inseparable, As college decisions were being made, they were left with a important question: would they remain together. The answer? Absolutely. Case attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he would play Lacrosse for the Tar Heels while Sidney went to the University of Arkansas where she would join Zeta Tau Alpha. Being over 1,000 miles apart is no small strain on a relationship, but with love, trust, and American Airlines, the two not only remained together but thrived. By junior year of college, Case knew Sidney was the only person for him. He would "jokingly" take her to jewelry stores to look at rings in hopes of finding out her ring size and her preferences on shapes. While the engagement would happen some years later, it never once left Case's mind. Sidney and Case both agreed Dallas was home for them and when school ended, they moved back to begin the relationship they once had in high school - one where they were together. Sidney began work at Children's Hospital as a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Nurse while Case joined a team of wealth managers as a financial advisor at UBS. Along with their dog, Scout, Sidney and Case continued the status quo until December 31, 2020 when Case made the easiest decision of his life. He asked Sidney to spend the rest of her life with him. She said yes. The ring helped.
Case decided the location for the proposal would be held at the Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas, TX. He had grown up watching his parents spend anniversary dinners at their hotel and spending nights on special occasions - a tradition he wanted to continue. After receiving permission from Sidney's parents to marry their daughter, Case had his partner from work leave him a voicemail stating that he could not make his New Year's reservation at the Mansion and would be willing to give it to them. The secret was still not exposed. Sidney and Case made plans together to have a party in the room and while Sidney was busy (and unknowingly) planning her own engagement party, Case went and organized the room with help from his aunt, Suzette Derrick and his step mother, Cindy Carpenter. With ring in hand, the two walked into the hotel room on December 31, 2020. Even with rose peddles littering the ground and champagne on ice, Sidney still had no idea what was going on. "Wow! Brant really left us all this?" she announced. Case must have done a very good job keeping this all a secret because even as he took her to the center of the massive, romantically candle lit, living room on top of a heart constructed out of white roses, she still had no idea. After he professed his love for her, and his intentions to be by her side for the rest of his life, he got down on one knee. She finally figured it out. In what felt like an eternity, Case is fairly sure he heard an audible "Yes" between the tears of joy and the complete look of disbelief. If the ring wasn't enough of a surprise, having both families and friends come up to celebrate just moments after the proposal certainly was. The way Case remembers it, it only took around 5 minutes until Sidney and her friends began planning the wedding. With the engagement complete, it was time to start planning a new life together - as the Carpenter family.
