One snowy December evening, Shawn and his Mom were scheduled to host trivia at one of our favorite spots, The Piano Room. But when I say snowy... what I actually mean is there was a literal blizzard going on outside! I had a rough day, and that on top of the weather conditions made me want to stay home that night and skip trivia. Shawn convinced me to go because our friends had already confirmed they were still going to be there despite the weather, and since everyone is so busy and it's hard to make plans to get together, I reluctantly decided to go. I know what you're thinking... our friends making a point to still come out to trivia during a blizzard should've been suspicious to me, but guess what! It sure wasn't! Once we got to The Piano Room, I started to have a great time and was very glad I went. My trivia team included Shawn's sister, Aryana, and our friends Rebecca, Liz, and Sam. The trivia categories were Holiday themed and super cute and fun. There was even an "Ugly Christmas Sweater" competition that Shawn made it to the finals of, but unfortunately he didn't win even though he was sporting one of my finest ugly Christmas sweaters. Everyone was having a great time sharing a few drinks and so many laughs. Liz even suggested that we order a bottle of champagne, giving the reason that she wanted to celebrate her and Sam having a night out after the recent birth of their son, Teddy. Again, this wasn't even a little bit suspicious to me. Once the trivia game had ended, Shawn announced to the room that they were going to do one more short category for research purposes because the Piano Room trivia hosts were contemplating the idea of changing the way they format and score their categories. He said these questions wouldn't affect anyone's scores or who won the game, and that we should number our dry erase boards from one to four and answer the following questions as if we were Shawn. To give you the full picture of what was happening, I was sitting in a chair that was positioned with my back facing the little stage area where Shawn was standing, and I was feeling a little tipsy at this point. Shawn began with the first question: "Who is the sweetest person I know?" I was feeling a little sassy, so I said to my teammates, "Me! Hahaha!" and wrote that on the board. Shawn continued with the second question: "Who is the only person I know who genuinely enjoys watching Hallmark Christmas movies?" I am a little confused by this question and I say to my team, "I'm pretty sure I'm the only person Shawn knows who watches that trash, so I guess it's me?" Shawn's next question: "Who is the world's greatest operatic soprano?" I cackled and said "That better be me!" (I'd like to point out at this point I am still completely oblivious to what is happening.) Shawn continued with the fourth question: "Who is the only person I want to spend the rest of my life with?" It was at this moment that I turned to my teammates with a look of complete astonishment and said, "Wait...what?" I noticed that Aryana and Liz were both recording with their phones. Then when I turned back around to look at Shawn, he was walking towards our table as he said fighting back tears, "There's one more question I have to ask..." Once he reached me, he got down on one knee, opened a box containing a beautiful ring, and said, "Anna Marie Bridgman, will you marry me?" I immediately screamed "YES!" and kissed my fiancé! We were both crying and hugging and the bar erupted with cheers and applause! Everything fell into place in my mind. No wonder our friends made sure to be there during a blizzard! No wonder Liz ordered champagne! It all connects! The proposal could not have been more perfect. Shawn really nailed it!
