Once upon a time, in a land far far away… well not so far, pretty close actually… Nearer than you might think… Kingston okay Kingston. Once upon a time in Kingston, a builder and a doctor were destined to meet and marry. There was nothing obviously special about these two. No claims to thrones, no unending fame and fortune, but through a promise to God and before man, they would commit to working for their happily ever after. As a result, this story is not like the fairy-tales you read as a child. There is no wicked witch with a vendetta against any of the main characters, nor is there an unscrupulous brownie with hopes of tricking anyone for his gain. Instead, the story surrounds two people who have wrestled with the joys and disappointments of life, who have dedicated their lives to the building of God’s kingdom and who have committed to supporting one another in their continual personal development. It is the story of a man and a woman very dear to us. For suspense purposes, let’s call them Tanique and Konathan. It was the year 1989. Wait no… too far back… let’s fast forward to 2007. Yes, a little early, but still necessary. As the builder stood on the pulpit of another church, minding the matters of the Lord, preaching about keys, locks and other matters, the doctor sat in the audience mesmerized. Not for the reasons you may think a saved sanctified, holy ghost filled water baptised, Jesus on her mind girl would be. I will just be straight with you. Her heart beat faster, her pupils dilated, her feet changed direction, she saw and heard something she liked. The builder too was slightly distracted by what he saw. Not enough to neglect the work of the Lord… but… almost.

The cares of life pulled the two in separate directions for years. Always mindful of the mutual attraction but never pursuing beyond a point. Until 2013. Crossing valleys and mountains, rivers and streams, the doc ventured out with tentative steps. A cup of soup on a day the builder was fluey or a prayer when experiencing pains. Never an apple though. Afterall, an apple a day keeps the doc away. The romance budded. The promise heavy. Except, it was not the time. Both parties still had to kiss a few frogs before resting with each other. The green meadow was finally to be frolicked in by Tanique and Konathan in 2017. After several attempts at recapturing her interest, he did it! Ogres and trolls had made her wary, but food and med school notes broke her castle walls. I wish that were an analogy of some sort but no, he did it with food and med school notes. Go figure. Both displayed tremendous bravery in propositioning and accepting what was unknown. The workup involved long car convos and ice-cream but eventually it was agreed on. The beginning of what was hoped for but not truly believed. The blossoming of something beautiful. So sure, this fairy-tale had the special beginning, the brave characters, the problem and the solution but it isn’t done yet. On December 19, 2020, as we celebrate the beginning of the end. As we usher in the forever and ever. The builder and the doctor will ride off into the sunset, err, well it will be a little after the sunset, but you know… and with our prayers and constant support, will make it to the happily ever after.
