The nearby Tulsi Baug is a vast street market with more budgeted jewelry and souvenirs. While in this area, you can also visit the 18th Century Temple of Lord Ganesh, and have local vegetarian food at Agatya Restaurant. Fresh-fruit seekers, you must try the street guavas with salt/chilli powder!
Pune is known for many of its "tekdis" or hills. Climb 103 steps to reach the temple at the top of this hill - from where 17th Century Peshwas kept an eye on their invading enemies!
There are 5 most-respected ganesh idols or "manache ganpati" in Pune, all at temples within close proximity to one-another. They hold great historical and religious meaning in the city, and are celebrated each year during Ganesh Utsov festival!
Also known as Pu La Deshpande Garden, this is the largest Japanese style garden outside of Japan, in Asia. Great place for walks/runs!

There are plenty of options for day-trips to escape the city life of Pune and Mumbai. For a longer weekend-trip, Mahabaleshwar is known for its mountains, dense forests, waterfalls/rivers, and strawberry farms with the establishment of mapro syrup. In 2010, we both joined our relatives on a trip to Mahabaleshwar, where we first spent some time together!
