We met at the audition for a local community theatre's production of "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair." Matthew was directing, and Seriah auditioned for the lead role of Jill Pole - she got the part, and that's where it all began! That summer, we worked on our first film together, which was the start of another important part of our friendship.
Over the next several years, we worked on more and more theatre and film projects together - Seriah became the main writer for Matthew's films, and our friendship grew as we became partners in creative pursuits. We also traveled with some other friends to New York and Tennessee for several creative arts/filmmaking events, growing our excitement for traveling together.
In October 2019, we went on a road trip to Great Sand Dunes National Park together, and after nearly six years of friendship, Seriah realized something had changed - but it wasn't until January 2020, after another road trip to the Bisti Badlands (there must be something romantic for us about dry, desolate, sandy locations), that we confessed that we liked each other as more than friends. We started dating in February, and a month later, the pandemic arrived, which actually ended up giving us lots of time to spend together in those spring months. Just as we had fit so well together as friends and creative partners for years, we discovered that we fit really well together as a couple throughout 2020, which led to January 31, 2021 - seven years almost to the day from the day we met.
After one year of dating, Matthew took Seriah on a date down in the Bosque (the wooded area that runs along the Rio Grande here in Albuquerque) to a sandbar where we'd had many picnics, summer walks, and adventures, on the day before our seven year friendship anniversary. With the Sandia Mountains turning their classic watermelon color in the background, Matthew proposed to Seriah, and she said "Heck yes!" After moving from actor/director, to creative partners, to friends, to a couple, we can't wait to make the final transition of our story - to being married!
