Scholars disagree on the origin of the spark that ignited Sarah and Jeff’s fire. But one thing is for sure, manure was in the air. It was 6am on a brisk Wednesday morning in the Spring of '15 as they pedaled to the nearby cow pasture where Jeff would be teaching Sarah how to milk a cow. Sarah had been working at the local organic food coop, writing poetry and finishing her Masters degree in secondary education from JMU. Jeff had been working as a solo musician and a highly-respected substitute teacher, while also holding down a lucrative swiss-chard farming operation. As they approached the barn door they felt the earth shake and turned to see Raspberry, a 2000lb nordic beauty full of fresh milk, stampeding down the slippery hill right towards them. In a moment of pure instinct Jeff pulled Sarah behind him and out of harm's way, an act of courageous and selfless love that echoed through the Valley. “Whoooaa Raz, it’s alright gal..hoo now honey,” Jeff said calmly, whisking away the swarm of gnats from Raspberry’s eyes. Sarah and Raspberry got along just fine after that, with Raz later admitting that Jeff had in fact organized the entire dramatic event beforehand. Late night bike rides around a sleepy college town, cheap taco dates to La Morena, singing together, hiking Fridley’s Gap, road trips and house shows...it wasn't long before they were spending all of their time together. Jeff’s introduction to Sarah’s extended family happened during a bizarre family talent show at the Golibart family reunion in July of 2017, at which Jeff unexpectedly lead the “outlaws” in a locally-modified version of “Wanted Dead or Alive.” With Bon Jovi in the air Jeff knew the timing was right, so he took off his pleather jacket and walked Sarah out to his 1986 Chevy Camaro. His makeup started to run as tears streamed down his face, he got down on one knee and popped the question, and the rest is history.
