Breckenridge sits at the base of the Ten Mile Mountain Range within the Colorado Rockies. With an elevation of 9,600 feet above sea level, It's the highest elevation base town in Colorado. Due to it’s elevation, Charlie and Emma strongly recommend taking preventative steps to avoid altitude sickness. Prior to arriving, please discuss any health concerns with your doctor. We also recommend spending a night in Denver if you have a history of altitude sickness and/or fainting. Lastly, we recommend coming into town a day prior to the wedding in order to acclimate to the elevation. Remember to take it easy and drink as much water as possible on your first day in Breck to ensure the easiest possible acclimation.
Altitude sickness is a group of symptoms that can strike if you travel, walk, or climb to a higher elevation, or altitude, too quickly. Symptoms of altitude sickness include: headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, sleep disturbances, and fainting. Symptoms usually come on within 12 to 24 hours of reaching a higher elevation and then get better within a day or two as your body adjusts to the change in altitude. Anyone can develop altitude sickness, no matter how fit, young, or healthy they are. In fact, being physically active at a high elevation makes you more likely to get it. Therefore, we recommend waiting to work out until you return home! For mild symptoms, you can try staying at your current altitude to see if your body adjusts. Rest, keep warm, and have plenty of liquids. Eating carbs can also help with symptoms of altitude sickness. Don’t go any higher until your symptoms are completely gone. If your symptoms are severe, or if mild symptoms don’t go away in a couple of days or get worse, get to a lower elevation as quickly as possible. Don’t exert yourself. Get medical help.
There are shuttle services that can be booked from the airport to mountain towns. These shuttles are great for small groups that do not need a car. Peak 1 Express (https://www.mountainshuttle.com/book-now/), Summit Express (https://www.summitexpress.com/reservations/) and Epic Mountain Express (https://www.epicmountainexpress.com) are great options. You can choose a drop off location that suits you- for those staying in town, we recommend the Breckenridge Transit Station. All three companies above also have private group charters available to book. Don’t forget to book your return trip! For those interested, car rentals are available at DIA, please see more information at https://www.flydenver.com/parking_transit/car-rentals It is not recommended to take a cab, Uber, or other ride share to and from the airport. The pricing will be extremely high. Please instead use one of the shuttle services above. Some offer private chartered cars.
For those attending the ceremony, shuttle service will be offered to assist with parking. We will also have shuttles post-reception to take guests from the Distillery to Main Street and from the Distillery back to the Highlands. The Town of Breckenridge also offers a Free Ride service downtown, so getting around should town not be difficult. See more information for Breck Free Ride Service at https://www.breckfreeride.com. Ubers and Ride Share apps are available in town, and are recommended as ways to get around town if the Free Ride does not meet your needs. Emma and Charlie have chosen to have a small wedding surrounded by close friends and family. For this reason, we kindly ask that only individuals named on invitations attend our special day. We thank everyone in advance for understanding.
While we do not have a dress code, Charlie and Emma recommend spring-weight, casual-cocktail attire. Most wedding activities will be held outside. Therefore, it is recommended that ladies wear shoes that will not sink into the ground (flats, block heels, or wedges). We also recommend bringing layers as it can get chilly in the evening.
Please see “Travel” tab for flight and lodging recommendations.
Charlie and Emma will be married in an intimate outdoor ceremony hours prior to the reception. Please note, individuals who’s presence is requested at the ceremony will receive a ceremony invitation alongside their wedding invitation.
While we love your kids, we will not be providing child friendly activities at our reception. Therefore, we will be having an adults-only celebration.
