Lai doesn't remember this, but she and Sean met at a mutual friend's birthday party. Sean's friend was interested in Lai's friend, so their friend invited them all to the bowling alley for his birthday. As is tradition, Sean & Friends ended up making complete fools of themselves in front of everyone and spent the evening punching each other in the testicles and getting way way too drunk. At the time, they were both dating other people, but Lai could already tell that this drunk asshole was at least an interesting fool. A few years later, Lai and Sean were both single and had always stayed in touch. While at a Karaoke bar, Sean asked Lai out on a date. Lai said "no" because she had just recently started seeing another guy. But she couldn't deny that she was interested in Sean, so she told him that "if this doesn't work out, can I ask you out later?" A few months later, Lai and Sean were at a friend's party together. They spent the evening flirting with each other and, as is tradition, getting way way too drunk. Eventually, Lai worked up the courage to ask Sean out on a date. At first, Sean thought that Lai was joking around, but when he realized she was not, they made plans to have lunch the next day. Sean & Lai's relationship stated off very informal as they both had recently gotten out of long term relationships. Sean did not want to come off as "too needy," and Lai was scared to get hurt again. Everything came to a breaking point when they were at a party together. Several people asked Sean if Lai & him were together, and they were telling people that they were "just friends." It wasn't until the next day, when Sean was scolded by a friend, that he realized he needed to make their relationship official. The following night, Sean took Lai out on a date and confessed that he loved her deeply and Lai was more than happy to return his feelings. Over the next 9 years, Sean and Lai worked to build a life together. They moved to a different city, bought a house, survived a pandemic, got engaged and created the most wonderful little girl in the entire world. It has been almost 5 years since Sean proposed to Lai and they are finally getting it done.
