Who knew that pistachio ice cream on a warm June night could lead to a lifetime of love and happiness with someone who I now call my best friend and future wife... April and I were introduced by our mutual friends in the Summer of 2016. After spending a very memorable day of back and forth glances at a Memorial Day party, I reached out to ask for April’s number. After learning that she enjoyed ice cream and country music, it was a no brainer to pick her up in a pickup truck for a date at Wentworth’s Ice Cream Parlor. We soon realized how much we have in common: from nachos to Disney movies and our hate for seafood and amusement rides. When looking back, that pistachio ice cream I ordered (which, ironically, April is allergic to) was just the beginning of so much more. We still laugh about it 6 years later and try to revisit Wentworth’s every year for our anniversary. Each moment we have spent together in between has been nothing short of spectacular. Those ordinary moments like strawberry picking every June and our annual pie eating contest in the Fall are traditions we hope to share someday with a family of our own.
In July of 2021, April and I took a trip to Hawaii with our friends. On our third night, we took a sunset walk down Ewa Beach. I suggested that April face the water so I could take a picture of her and the landscape. While she was turned, I pulled out a rose which was hidden in the leg of my shorts. As I got down onto one knee, I almost lost my footing and ended up in the Pacific with the ring. I was able to let out the biggest sigh of relief when April responded yes to my question, “Will you accept this rose?” (a nod to one of her favorite shows, the Bachelor). April's ring was designed using a diamond from the wedding ring of her grandmother, Mimi, who she hopes to make proud on our special day.
As I shared my love for Newport, Rhode Island with April, she has done the same with me for Lake Winnipesaukee. During our many drives to New Hampshire listening to Rascal Flatts Greatest Hits, overlooking the lake with a Cider Bellies donut in hand, I have grown to love the place April calls a second home. Sharing our favorite places has allowed us to see the true meaning of a home away from home. As the big day approaches, I can't wait to dance in the moonlight overlooking the lake with my beautiful bride. We both can't wait to share our special day with our loved ones with laughs, love, and of course our favorite....food!
