Question

How should I pack for the weekend?

Answer

The venues where we're hosting our events have very strict attire policies. To ensure everyone is able to attend and enjoy themselves, please adhere to the following guidelines when packing: Friday Evening (Rehearsal, Rehearsal Dinner, Welcome Event): Business attire to include a coat, tie, and dark-soled dress shoes for gentlemen, and commensurate for ladies (cocktail or semi-formal dresses with appropriate dress footwear). For men, this means either a suit or a sport coat and dress pants with non-white soled, dress shoes (i.e., no sneakers or athletic loafers). Although it's tempting, we strongly discourage wearing a tuxedo for the Friday events. For women, cocktail attire with dress shoes is acceptable. Saturday: Black tie, as described in more detail below. In general, it's Washington, DC in the winter - please bring a coat :)

Question

What is and is not considered "black tie" dress code?

Answer

Black tie: Floor length gowns for women and tuxedos for gentlemen. Not black tie: Short or mid-length cocktail dresses for women; Suits of any color (with the exception of an all black suit with black necktie) for gentlemen.

Question

How should I plan to get around?

Answer

The Cathedral and Cosmos Club are approximately 0.6 miles apart - walkable for adventurous folks or those looking to get their steps in. Understanding it's January and it will likely be chilly, we recommend taking an Uber / taxi or utilizing public transportation to make your way to the reception. If you're joining us the night before at the Rehearsal and/or Welcome Event, The Metropolitan Club is also located nearby (and very close to the White House!).
