Renee and Scott met in American Samoa in 2017. Renee had been working there in a small hospital for about 1.5 years when Scott came to the island (from his home in Hawaii) for a contract for work. Being such a small place, Renee quickly noticed the new cute guy on the island. Scott joined Renee and her friends on a couple of island adventures, and seeing Scott's calm and adventurous spirit, Renee was hooked. Quickly after starting to date, Renee applied for a job in Maui, thinking that it might freak Scott if he knew that she was already applying for a job in his state. When she told him, his response was, "You'll still be on a different island." Very nonchalant. Renee clearly thought that if she was moving to his state, he could simply move over to the island she chose. Not so easy. After another 1.5 years, Renee finally changed jobs again, and moved to Honolulu in Sept, 2019 to be with Scott. After being together for 2 years, Renee had still not met Scott's mother and sister in the mainland. Scott decided that he wanted to spend the holidays with his family, so last minute they bought tickets to Salt Lake City, to spend Thanksgiving with his sister, her family and his mom. Renee did not quite understand why he was so insistent on buying such expensive plane tickets, for just 4 days. The day after Thanksgiving, Scott, Renee, his sister and her family went out for a day of sledding and playing in the snow. After building a 7' snowman with the family, Scott got down on one knee, and popped the question. 2020 has proven to be a difficult year to plan a wedding, or anything. It has made us realize time and time again that we are not in control, and that we have to trust in God's plan. We decided we don't want to keep waiting and hoping for normalcy, and just want to get MARRIED! Love > Pandemic!
