Downtown Mancos
Downtown Mancos, home to 1,400 residents, boasts a hand full of art galleries and local art vendors. It also has several places to find tasty food and drinks, including Absolute Bakery and Cafe, Missy's, the Columbine Bar & Grill, Mancos Brewing Company, Olio, and Mancos Pizza Co., . You can also grab a sandwich to go at many of the places listed above and at the P&D Grocery or at Zuma Natural Foods.
Four Corners Monument
58 miles from Mancos, "The Four Corners Monument is the only place where four states meet, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. Upon your arrival at the Four Corners there is a newly created vendor market, a place where you can purchase native artwork directly from the artisan."
Mesa Verde National Park
Just 8.5 miles from our house, "This wild landscape of deep canyons and expansive vistas is home to over a thousand species, including several that live nowhere else on earth. For over 700 years, the Ancestral Pueblo people built thriving communities on the mesas and in the cliffs of Mesa Verde. Today, the park protects the rich cultural heritage of 26 tribes and offers visitors a spectacular window into the past."
Canyons of the Ancients National Monument
Just 20 miles from our front door, "The Monument contains the highest known archaeological site density in the United States, with rich, well-preserved evidence of native cultures. The archeological record etched into this landscape is much more than isolated islands of architecture . . .The Monument has been used or inhabited by humans, including the Northern Ancestral Puebloan culture (or Anasazi), for 10,000 years, and continues to be a landscape used by humans today."
Sharkstooth Trailhead
"The trail ascends to the top of Sharkstooth Pass at 11,900 ft." to phenomenal 360 degree views. "Many people will turnaround at this point and descend back to the TH for a 4 mile hike/bike."
Fishing
Fishing! There are several great fishing opportunities in our area. We have plenty of fishing gear and a kayak and canoe for you to borrow! And if you arrive in the days before the wedding, the groom will provide a guided fishing trip to one of the local lakes or rivers.
Downtown Durango
Go "play in historic downtown Durango where you will find beautiful hotels, friendly shops, first class restaurants, famous breweries and many things to do. Take a stroll through the streets and marvel at the historic buildings and unique shops, sip a gourmet cup of coffee or enjoy some of the rich arts and culture of downtown."
Telluride, CO
A great day trip from our house, "Telluride, a former Victorian mining town in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, is set in a box canyon amid forested peaks at the base of a popular ski-and-golf resort. The town’s historic district houses landmarks like the Sheridan Opera House," several shops and cafes. The free gondola ride into town provides stunning 360 degree views!
