Flight, transportation, and accommodation suggestions. Tips and things to know about traveling in Italy.

Flight

Florence or Pisa

Florence and Pisa are the closest airports to fly into. Florence is about an hour and a half drive and usually a little less expensive to fly into. Pisa is about an hour and ten-minute drive.

Rental Car

Transportation

If you choose to rent a car through Budget, here is a discount code to use: V816145. Please note that Italy requires an International Driving Permit (IDP) which can be obtained for $15 at any AAA office in the US before your trip. There are limited parking spaces at the villa. Please consider carpooling with your friends or family if you plan to rent a car. Public transportation is available most of the way to the villa. There are both trains and buses nearby. We can arrange transportation from the bus or train station to the villa if you travel by public transit. The final option is a private car hire. This would probably be the most expensive option, but the least stressful and most scenic option. If you want to split a private car hire with other guests, let us know and we can try to facilitate that. Please let us know if you plan on renting a car so we can ensure enough parking space for everyone. If you need assistance with trip planning, we are happy to help.

House Or Rental

Costola

Via Santa Maria, Ceserana, Toscana 55020, Italy

We rented a villa for the week of the wedding. The villa sleeps 23 people comfortably; however, it can sleep up to 32 people if anyone is comfortable sleeping on a pullout couch. We plan for the majority of our guests to stay at the villa. While we love your children, we ask that you use our wedding to have a child-free night. If your children are joining you on your European vacation, we kindly ask that you find accommodations nearby. Costola is an old monastery that was built in the 1400s. The monastery and pool house have eleven bedrooms and ten bathrooms, ensuring plenty of space for everyone. A large pool is also available for use on the property. Although we expect to accommodate the majority of our guests, rooms will be secured on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please let us know if you plan to stay at the villa as soon as possible. To secure your room at the villa, a deposit of $325 per guest is requested. Cash, check, or Venmo can be sent to Sherry or Sarah. Sherry's Venmo is @Sherry-Waterman. Sarah's Venmo is @Sarah-Sexton-16. Your presence is important to us. If you have concerns regarding accommodations, please reach out to us. If you need assistance finding other accommodations close by, please let us know. We are happy to assist or answer any questions.

Travel Note

Tips

If you take a train anywhere in Italy, make sure you validate it before you get on the train. Sherry found this out the hard way. Make sure your passports do not expire within six months of returning home. There is a new travel requirement that Europe is implementing. It is set to take effect next year, but we will keep you informed on this. It is called the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). The fee is 7 Euro and you will need to fill out an application online. More information can be found at this website https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias_en. Keep in mind that travel may be interrupted by any number of things. We recommend purchasing travel insurance and giving yourself plenty of time to get there.
