In 1971 Mariano Martinez , owner of Mariano’s Hacienda restaurant adapted a Slurpee machine to create that special tequila mixture! *The Dallas Arts District is the largest urban arts district in the United States. *The Dallas /Fort Worth airport is larger than New York City’s Manhattan Island. *The Dallas Public Library permanently displays one of the original copies of the Declaration of Independence. *Renowned architect I.M. Pei designed Dallas City Hall, One Dallas Center, Energy Plaza, Fountain Place and Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. (He also built the pyramid that stands in front of the Louvre in Paris, France) *The Texas State Fair’s “Big Tex” is the tallest cowboy in the world. He stands 55 feet tall in size 96 Lucchese boots! *The Great Trinity Forest, 6000 acres, is the largest urban hardwood forest in the United States. The Trinity River Audubon Center nature preserve sits on 120 of those acres and is worth the visit! *With the roof enclosed, the entire Statue of Liberty could fit into the Cowboys Stadium. The term “Super Bowl” was coined by Dallas native and AFL founder, Lamar Hunt. *Internationally, the 1980 “Who Done It? Episode of “Dallas” holds the record as the most-watched television episode in history. 360 million viewers tuned in to find out who shot J.R. *Dallas is home to more places to shop per capita than anywhere else in the country. Check out North Park Mall for a mix of upscale shopping and art, or check out the original Neiman Marcus store downtown. *The Texas Instrument calculator is from Dallas.
