In December of 2017, Sarah and I began a journey that would change our lives forever. We were invited to join a sponsored trip to Israel. The trip took us throughout the country and introduced Sarah to her first taste of authentic Israeli cuisine (pronounced: Fa-lah-fel), as well as all the Israeli pickles she could hope for. What she didn’t know was that I was carrying a valuable secret with me. This secret came in the form of an engagement ring, seated inside a wooden ring box, nestled snugly in a shirt which accompanied us everywhere. The ring was certainly never at risk during its visit to the salty Dead Sea, playing paintball or during an ATV ride through a honey-bee farm along the Jordan River. After the two-week group trip Sarah and I ventured off to Tel Aviv. We had a private Segway tour scheduled along the Mediterranean, at the end of which, I would propose. When we arrived at the Segways, Sarah was an immediate pro doing figure-8's, while I tried to stay upright. Approximately 30 minutes into our tour along the Mediterranean, our guide stopped us in an alleyway to express his love for an upcoming vista that would be a great photo-op. A few seconds later, he yelled to us “yalla, before the sun sets.” "Yalla" is Hebrew for “jeez, let’s go.” We began to roll forward when a red light on Sarah's Segway began flashing aggressively. It was broken. In Israeli fashion, our guide exclaimed, “No problem, we have Segways all over the area, we’ll get you on a new one.” A short few minutes later, he returned with a big smile, “there are no Segways around.” He handed us his Segway to let us go and enjoy the view. We arrived at the vista and immediately ditched our Segways. We watched as the sun began to dip below the horizon and I was on one knee within seconds. She said "YES"! The next morning Sarah and I caught a plane to Italy to continue the celebrations. We look forward to re-experiencing the joy of that day with all of you in December!
