We are having a modern Jewish ceremony.
This is the traditional wedding dance. We highly encourage everyone to join in. In Jewish culture, the wedding is treated as a community event. "As a witness to the wedding that is taking place, it is the community's obligation to share in the joy of the wedding couple." No, it is traditional for only the wedding couple & their parents to be lifted.
The dance begins with everyone joining hands in big circles (there are multiple) and doing a grapevine around. The immediate family is at the center and dances together in do-se-dos. At that point, it is best to follow the lead of the expert Hora dancers for any additions. In the middle, 2 chairs will be brought to lift the bride & groom. While the chairs are being lifted, the circling stops. If we are lucky, we will see both Elaina's parents & Sam's parents be lifted as well (not at the same time). After the chair part, the circling starts again. Don't worry, you'll be brought into the festivities and it is easy to follow along.
