Marco and Samantha went to the same middle school and shared a group of friends that always had lunch together. Although they didn't speak much to each other in middle school, they were friends on Myspace and Facebook, but would often talk on messenger. One day during the summer heat of 2010, Samantha was at a park with friends while Marco was running and trying to cut weight before he left to attend Cal State Fullerton College; at this time, they hadn't seen each other in 4 years. The two locked eyes and ran up to each other when they recognized one another. They spent over an hour catching up, and they would have spent more time together if it wasn't for Marco's parents calling him to ask where he was. When Marco said he had to go, he made the first move and kissed Samantha before he left. After that day, they spent the entire summer together going to the pool, having picnics in the park, going to the movies, and stargazing in the back of Samantha's truck. When it was time for Marco to leave for college at the end of summer and move to Fullerton, they both cried and said that they didn't want to be apart. The weekend before Marco moved away is when he asked Samantha to be his girlfriend.
Marco made sure to create a full day of surprises. It started with preparing one of Samantha's favorite breakfast plates, waffles with strawberries in the shape of a heart. After breakfast, he drove the two of them to the beach to ride bikes along the coast and stopped at a Ceviche spot to pick up another favorite of Samantha's. They spent the afternoon soaking up the sun and enjoying the day. Before sunset, Marco told Samantha that he wanted to go to some cliffs to take some photos together since the last time they tried to take pictures it was a failure. He told her to change out of her beach clothes and put on something nicer so they can set up a tri-pod and get the perfect photo. After a 15-minute drive to La Jolla, they pulled up to Sunset Cliffs where they have been to before a handful of times. As they walked through a path to the edge of a cliff, Marco told Samantha to close her eyes and watch her step. When she opened her eyes, Marco was standing in front of her with a necklace and helped put it on her neck while she was facing away from the real surprise. Once the necklace was on and Samantha turned around, Marco was down on one knee with "Will You Marry Me" behind him and rose petals from his Parents & Lito's backyard. They cried and embraced each other for 10 minutes without Samantha knowing that his mom and sisters were hiding behind bushes capturing every moment and also helped set everything up. They left Sunset Cliffs and drove to a hotel in Downtown San Diego to continue the celebration. Once again, Marco's sisters set up their hotel rooms with tons of decorations and champagne waiting on ice. Marco told Samantha that they should grab a drink upstairs before leaving to dinner. They hopped in the elevator and when the doors opened, their siblings and friends were waiting to celebrate with them at the rooftop bar.
