Our Story

3rd times a charm!

Jay and Sam first met in a place at the perfect confluence of their work life and culture - a Young Jewish Professionals (YJP) event near Union Square. Both being in sales, they thought it was a good place to network and shmooze, and couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Jay noticed Sam from across the room immediately. He had been single for a few years, and she was exactly what he was looking for - a pretty brunette with bright eyes and a gregarious disposition. Sam also noticed Jay, mostly because he was the tallest guy in the room - not hard to do in a room full of Jewish men. And the hair, of course. They chatted for a bit, making small talk about their jobs and passions - Jay was in a band, and Sam had an unhealthy obsession with Bruce Springsteen. Alas, Sam had a boyfriend at the time, so they exchanged contact information and tried to arrange a happy hour for their companies. Eventually, the contact stopped. A year to the day later, Sam and Jay meet each other again(!) at another work related conference. This time in Palm Springs, where Sam graciously invited Jay to Hibachi dinner with her work friends, and Jay impressed the whole group by catching shrimp in his mouth from 15 ft away. What a panty dropper! It was a magical evening, but Sam was still in a relationship and Jay was on his way to a ski trip in Aspen, Colorado. But Ho! What happens? Global Pandemic! Jay moves home to NJ! Sam is single again! It was at this point that the fates of time would finally play their hand. A short eight months later, after a lot of NYC pandemic life livin’ and taking tequila shots on Zoom (Sam) and skiing / traveling / parental caretaking (Jay), the gods of the dating apps strike. And Sam and Jay reconnect for the third time, through Hinge. As soon as Jay saw her in the dating app, he knew there was finally a chance to win over that girl he had been crushing on for so many years. So, in the middle of the pandemic, they started talking. Every night, over the phone, on actual calls. Like old people. Jay was feeling it. Sam was feeling it. And Jay’s family knew something was up because he was giggling uncontrollably on calls at 10 pm at night with a stranger they had never spoken to. So finally, they arranged a meet up. As this was a global pandemic, they couldn’t go on a conventional NYC first date. No cocktails after work or $100 dinners at average restaurants. No bar hopping in the East Village or nights at clubs in Brooklyn till 3 am. Instead, Sam had to take several covid tests to ensure she was negative, and Jay had to DRIVE from New Jersey, a hellish landscape filled with weird talking people. And they had their first date in Sam’s apartment. It was an immediate connection. They spent every weekend together, traveled together, and moved in together after 4 months. A year later, Farfel finally accepted Jay as his father, and that's when they knew they had a beautiful, perfect family!
