Our Story

Ryan and Val met in 2016 at the Fairmont Hotel in Santa Monica where we both worked. Ryan had recently moved to California from Boston, and got the first job he could as a valet for the hotel. Val had been in California for almost a year, managing the spa's front desk. Ryan used to run past her desk to go grab cars from the east parking lot and would stop by to chat every so often. One day Val asked Ryan what was for lunch downstairs in the employee cafeteria, and when Ryan came up to tell her she was slammed at the front desk. He took a small cash tip envelope off of the desk, used for the massage therapists. Confused and busy, Val didn't think anything of it. Later, Ryan handed her the card and said "here you dropped this" and walked away. She put it in her pocket and continued to help the guests. A few moments later, Ryan came back up and took another envelope off of the desk and later handed it to her saying "you dropped this one too." With no time to think, she stuffed it in her pocket and it wasn't until closing time she had the chance to see what they were all about. She took the envelopes out of her pocket and the first one read "Dinner: chicken, weird green beans... by the way I think you're super chill, we should hang out some time." With a smile on her face she read the second one: "I forgot to write my number... 508-..." She texted him that night and they went out to a small speakeasy, Harvelle's down the street. They listened to a live band, danced and laughed with ease. They hung out every day after that night and simply became inseparable. They both had a craving to live fun, spontaneous lives and loved all of the same things. Val showed him her longboard and how she skated everywhere and Ryan borrowed it for one day before buying his own. They skated everywhere together, making memories wherever they went. They started traveling to Big Bear mountain for ski trips, Joshua Tree for camping, Mexico for lobsters, and all the Music Festivals in LA for dancing! They quickly fell in love and after 2 years of dating, Val got into her dream school, UCSD, to finish her bachelors degree. They made the move down to San Diego where they live today with their son (dog) Griz. It amazing to see how far they've come, as they both work for successful software companies. Their passion for adventure will never end as they continue to travel the world, ski, camp, skate, and dance.... til' death (:
