The memorial and the cemetery are next to each other and honor those who have fought for our freedom.
The National Mall (not a shopping center)
The National Mall houses several monuments such as the Washington Monument, Martin Luther King, Jefferson and Lincoln memorials. Tickets required for some venues.
Smithsonian Museums
One of the hallmarks of DC, the Smithsonian museums cover a wide variety of interests. Museums are free to visit but timed tickets for entry may be required. Our favorite picks are: - The Hirshhorn - Air and Space - Natural History
Georgetown
Georgetown is right across the river from the wedding venue and features a variety of shops and restaurants. Make sure you take some time to walk through the surrounding neighborhood! Some of our favorites are: - Capital One Cafe (good coffee shop to work at) - Lutece (french restaurant) - Tatte coffeshop/bakery (has good gluten free options) - Yellow cafe (great pizza for dinner and shawarma during the day)
Theodore Roosevelt Island
The island offers accessible nature good for a calming walk or a morning run.
Oktoberfest at the Wharf
One of our first dates was sushi at NARA-YA at the Wharf. A good option for a seasonal event, October 5th is an Oktoberfest celebration. If Oktoberfest is not your thing, there's always lots to do here from restaurants to concerts to walks along the river.
