Jonathan was born in Barranquilla, Colombia where he spent his early years playing soccer. He became so good that he came to play soccer for North Country Community College in the United States. Christine was born in Yonkers, NY, but traveled back and forth to her favorite place, Ireland, every year! Jonathan moved to the small town of Saranac Lake, NY in 2011. Just five years later, so did Christine. It was fate! At first, they lived two different lives. Jonathan was the Colombian soccer star around Paul Smith College. For those that know Christine, she was the life of the party and captain of the rugby team. For a few years they knew of each other, but didn't pass any heed. One winter day in 2019, Jonathan walked Christine to class after she had an operation and the rest is history. Somehow a Colombian guy and an Irish girl moved to one of the smallest towns in NY and it just worked. Jonathan came to meet the Kavanagh/Rutledge/Donnelly family in Yonkers right after the Covid-19 pandemic. If he could survive that initial party in Robert and Patricia's house, then everyone knew he would be around for a while! Just a year later, Christine and Jonathan went to Colombia so she could meet the family. To no one’s surprise, it was a perfect mix. The two families fit perfectly together. So why get married in Ireland? Jonathan spent weeks with Robert and Tricia planning the perfect proposal in Christine's favorite place, Ireland. On the last full day in Ireland, Jonathan dropped to one knee in Ballina on the walking bridge Christine’s father and grandfather used to take her fishing on. It was official! After going to a Donnelly wedding that weekend before, Jonathan had announced that "that was a party, I want a wedding just like that one," so that is exactly what we are going to give him! We can not wait to have so many of you from different parts of our lives in the beautiful Enniscrone for the best Colombian, Irish wedding you could ask for! Bringing our families together and our cultures will surely be a weekend to remember.
