Today, tomorrow, and always is the tagline that every girl dreams will become her reality with the love of her life. Finding someone to love is not planned, but overtime love develops and evolves with God‘s grace and favor. Looking back over the years Demetrius and I entered a journey our young hearts could never prepare for. I still remember that first DM he sent me on Facebook messenger followed by inquisitive, flirty jokes, and conversations. This led to our first introduction on North Capitol and Randolph Place where we ensued a long talk filled with laughs while sipping a bottle of Nuvo. I remember Demetrius and I enjoyed dinner at Bertucci's on our official first date. I ordered chicken carbonara and he came around the table behind me to help me cut my chicken before we ate dinner. I really thought to myself, this man is making a move on me and it’s really working! Demetrius was the perfect gentleman and I wanted to know more. After dinner, we shared our first kiss and Demetrius proceeded to ask, "Can we do that again?" I’ll never forget meeting Demetrius grandpa Elmore Batie, watching “Westerns” with him, and shooting the breeze while he sternly joked and would say, “You need to marry her son. Y'all practically married and you spend all of your time together.” I’ll never forget all of our trips and excursions. One of our most memorable getaways was a trip to Sarasota, Florida, where we expressed our love for one another on a sandbar in the middle of the Gulf coast. It took some sweet talking and convincing to talk Bear into trading in his kicks for his bare feet in the sand, but he was always down for new adventures and excitement as long as I was by his side. On July 29, 2023 Demetrius, with sweaty palms, an open heart, and clear mind got down on one knee and asked me the big question my heart has been yearning to hear from the man that I love and adore. Close family and friends cunningly and ecstatically waited on the corner of 15th & Pennsylvania Avenue to show support and love for our new commitment to one another. Not to mention, a few teary eyed and cheerful Washingtonians honked their horns and celebrated this display of our love story in its purest form on a warm DC summer night. Through all the ups, downs, triumphs and obstacles our love for one another always prevailed. We can look back over the years and truly say we both found our special person, a safe place, and like one of our favorite love songs says… a love of our own. “What therefore God hath joined together let no man put asunder (Matthew 19:6)” Today, tomorrow, and always we can’t wait to spend the rest of our God-given lives happily together forever and ever.
