Playa Las Canteras is a gorgeous city beach with soft, golden sand and crystal-clear water that is perfect for bathing and snorkeling alike. Located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the world-class beach is one of Europe's most famous shorelines, and it also boasts a 2-mile promenade. And is really close to the hotel!
The visit to Roque Nublo is one of the best things to do in Gran Canaria. It is 1,813 meters above sea level, so you can imagine the spectacular panoramic view that you will have from here to the interior of Gran Canaria and to the island of Tenerife. It is one of the largest rocks in the world. The start of the trail is right in front of the car park, so you can’t get lost. The hiking route to the top is just 1.5 km one way and 1.5 km return. As it is an uphill climb on the outward journey, it should take you about an hour in total to complete the hike. On the other hand, on its side there is another monument and that you will find on the walk going up, it is the Roque del Fraile (Friar), since its silhouette resembles that of a friar. The Pico de Las Nieves is one of the highest points in Gran Canaria with 1,949 meters of altitude.
The Maspalomas Dunes (Spanish: Dunas de Maspalomas) are sand dunes located on the south coast of the island of Gran Canaria, Province of Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands. A 404-hectare (1,000-acre) area of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, they have been protected as a nature reserve since 1987. They were one of the contenders in the 12 Treasures of Spain competition. They were formed by sand from the now subdued marine shelf, when it was laid dry during the last ice age and the wind blew the sand towards the coast of the island. We will be going there on our day of adventure!
Amadores Beach is one of the prettiest beaches on Gran Canaria, due to its white sand and secluded location. The sand is imported from further up the coastline and have an unusual but very pleasant feel, and it gives an outstanding contrast to the shallow, turquoise water. The inviting beach is just a 20-minute walk away from Puerto Rico, with plenty of amenities close by. If you are after a warm, sunny and relaxing beach, then Amadores Beach might be the right place for you. A little far from the Hotel, more for those guests that decide to stay a little longer in the island.
The Casa de Colón is one of Las Palmas most attractive buildings with ornate doorways, beautiful latticed balconies, large courtyards and carved wooden ceilings, representing numerous aspects of the island’s architecture. This palace was the residence of the first governors of the island and it is claimed that Christopher Columbus stayed there in 1492 while one of his ships was repaired, hence the name Casa de Colón (Columbus House). This charming building was rebuilt in 1777 and since 1952 has housed a museum comprising 13 permanent exhibition rooms. On display are artifacts of Christopher Columbus: ship models, a replica of a cabin of La Niña, one ship of Columbus’ fleet, navigation instruments, nautical maps and charts, paintings, as well as many other artifacts related to voyages made by the famous navigator and the history of the Canaries and their relationship with the Americas. This house was also the birthplace of the celebrated opera tenor, Alfredo Kraus (1927-99).
