Like many couples these days Rob and Tiffany met on a dating app. They matched on Bumble, which requires the woman to send the first message within 24 hours or the connection is lost. In true Tiffany fashion, she just missed the cutoff but the app offered the opportunity to re-match for $3.99. A bargain, right? She paid the fee and sent the message, and Rob replied by teasing her about almost missing the opportunity to chat with him! They chatted for a few days, decided to meet in person, and fell almost instantly head-over-heels for each other. They bonded over their love of family, friends, and travel, and started planning several trips to take over their first year together. Four months into their relationship, the worldwide pandemic shifted most of those plans and Rob and Tiffany were forced to make some decisions about their relationship. With Tiffany’s mom, Sybil, and Rob’s dad, Bob, and son, DJ, the couple sheltered in place for many months. Rob and Tiffany were still able to enjoy each other’s company and grow their relationships as a family. In the five years since those initial chat messages, Tiffany and Rob have experienced many things. They’ve traveled, witnessed friends and family get married, and also lost loved ones, including both of Rob’s parents, Charlean and Bob. They are so excited to walk into this next chapter of their story together and have all their family and friends celebrate with them.
Unbeknownst to Tiffany, Rob had been planning to propose for quite some time. After several weeks of shopping for “the ring,” Rob found one that he felt would be perfect for Tiffany. He ordered the ring and had it delivered to the jewelry store not far from his house. The day before he was due to pick up the ring, Tiffany informed Rob that she had a doctor’s appointment and asked him to take her. As fate would have it, Tiffany’s appointment was only 5 minutes away from the jewelry store. While Tiffany was at the doctor, Rob went to pick up the ring and was very happy with the final product. After picking up Tiffany from her appointment, he invited her for lunch at an Asian Fusion restaurant nearby. They enjoyed their lunch and made small talk about several different subjects. As they were finishing lunch, they had a conversation about past dating experiences, specifically around the subject of ghosting: “Have you ever been ghosted by a person that you were dating?” As they both told stories of being ghosted, Rob realized that this would be the perfect time to ask for Tiffany’s hand in marriage because he would never ghost her. Plus, the ring was burning a hole in his pocket! But how would he do it? Asking in a restaurant seemed “cheesy” and Rob always loves the element of surprise. As they walked back to the car, Rob could barely keep the grin from his face. As they continued to talk in the car, Rob reached in his pocket with his left hand as he held Tiffany’s hand in his right hand, he looked into her eyes and told her that she would never be ghosted again and asked for her hand in marriage. Tiffany was in total shock and disbelief and was at a loss for words. After what seemed like several minutes she said YES!
Chicago, our beautiful city, has a rich and vibrant history. It is home to several native American tribes, including the Potawatomi, Miami, and Illiniwek. Their legacy lives on in the city's name, which is derived from the Potawatomi word "chicagoua." The region has long been a center for Indigenous people to gather, trade, and celebrate kinship ties. Black people have also influenced the fabric of this city. Chicago's first non-native settler was Jean Baptiste du Sable, a Haitian-born African American fur trader. Chicago became a major destination for the Great Migration, a mass exodus of African Americans from the South to the North in the early 20th century. This historic movement shaped the city's diverse and thriving culture, which you can see in the music, fashion, food, arts, and vibes today. As we gather to celebrate our union, we invite you to reflect on Chicago's rich history and look forward to a bright future together as part of our extended family. We believe Chicago is the perfect location to honor our ancestors from Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, and all across the South. We can't wait to share this special day with you in our favorite city in the world.
