Old Capitol Building

Circa 1807, the Old Capitol Building is considered the first example of Gothic architecture in a public building in the United States. It served as the seat of government for the State of Georgia from 1807 to 1868, and in its legislative chambers the Secession Convention was held in 1861. General Sherman and his troops damaged the building and held a mock legislative session during Sherman's March to the Sea. Since 1879, Georgia Military College has occupied the historic site. A place very special to the happy couple, this is the spot where Robert proposed and the two will be saying, "I Do!"

Built as the Executive Mansion, it was home to the governors of Georgia from 1838 to 1868. During the Civil War, the Mansion was claimed as a "prize" in the March to the Sea, when General Sherman and his troops occupied the building. The Mansion is one of the most perfect examples of Greek Revival architecture in the nation and now serves as an historic house museum. Rose Hill, a Greek Revival home circa 1852, is the centerpiece of the Lockerly Arboretum, and presides over its surroundings with elegance and grace. Visitors can walk the trails, bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the tables near the pond, watch birds and wildlife, and explore the mansion.

The Goodie Gallery is Julianna and Robert's favorite casual eatery in town and is famous throughout Milledgeville for a variety of the staples on their menu. Some of their most popular deli items are the chicken salad sandwich, buffalo chicken wrap, and turkey wrap. Julianna's favorite is their homemade pimento cheese sandwich...and of course she always saves rooms for dessert! Their bakery cases are overflowing with mouthwatering desserts from their famous cheesecake to huge cinnamon rolls, donuts, cookies, muffins, and more. In addition to fine jewelry and watches, J.C. Grant Company also has a fully equipped jewelry repair shop, an accredited gem laboratory as well as bridal registry services and fine gifts. J.C. Grant Company is indeed a "full service" jewelry store...and is also the place Robert designed her beautiful engagement ring!
