WE DID IT!

We have never been the most traditional couple. For the longest time, a wedding seemed like an unnecessary hassle. Having been together for as long as we had, we didn't think we needed an official piece of paper to confirm our commitment to each other. And yet, as our 10-year anniversary approached, we became more and more enamored with the idea of eventually turning into an old married couple... and that required marriage. So, on the very first day of this lovely quarantine we now find ourselves in, Rick proposed. I'm pretty sure his exact words were "we might all die, so I want to have at least asked you to be my wife." Unfortunately, planning a wedding in the middle of a pandemic is a terrible experience. No stars. Would absolutely not recommend. We knew we wanted a destination winter wedding, but travel was restricted. We knew we wanted an epic reception with lots of good food and dancing, but people would have to wear masks the whole time. It became readily apparent that we would not be able to protect our family and friends and still have the wedding we wanted - at least not in 2020. Now, I'm sure this will come as a surprise to you all, but Rick and I are very stubborn. Knowing we couldn't have the wedding we wanted was not enough to make us give up on the idea of getting married on our 10-year anniversary - December 12, 2020. So we started researching elopement locations and settled on Colorado. We found an awesome photographer, ordered a cake, and filled out the paperwork so that Zelda could come with us. Because, let's be real, there's no way we would get married and not have Zelda as our "Dog of Honor." When the day finally arrived, Colorado more than delivered on our dream snowy wedding. We had an amazing time running around Twin Lakes in pristine white snow, just the two of us and the happiest snow-loving dog on the planet. We will have a party to celebrate later, when this pandemic is over. For now, this private ceremony was perfect for us.
