LOVE STORY: MO + OG Both Monifa and Julien run media-based businesses which cause them to be on social media often, so it was only right that they met on Instagram. What started off as friendly interactions in 2016 developed into online dating, then a true courtship that spanned from New York City to Charlotte, North Carolina. Monifa moved back to her hometown in New Jersey in 2018 and the couple got serious about their relationship. These adventurous souls get on a plane whenever they can, usually without much notice, popping up anywhere they can see art, look fly, and/or lay on a beach. One of the most memorable trips they've taken was to New Orleans in 2020 - it was a much-needed getaway in the midst of the pandemic. As many may know, Monifa has 1 daughter, Jordan and Julien has a son, Onias & daughter, Meah. In 2019, the children became acquainted on NYC beach dates and immediately took a liking to each other. “At that point I knew this relationship was special. I never introduced my children to anyone I was dating and this just felt right- so I made up in my mind she was the one” says Julien. It was in 2021 that Julien surprised Monifa with a proposal in Brooklyn at the Akwaaba Inn, a historically Black owned bed and breakfast that she had always wanted to stay at. "After the proposal, we knew that the only place we wanted to exchange vows was at the Akwaaba. It's infused in Black culture, history and legacy -all things that are important to us," explains Monifa. "This is a special place for us and the perfect place to begin this new chapter in our lives.
