How We Met

Katie moved to Columbus in the summer of 2015 to begin her role as a career consultant for undergraduate business students at The Ohio State University. That fall, John, who was working as an auditor, and Katie met while co-facilitating a workshop for sophomore Ohio State students interested in accounting. There were some sparks and ... nothing happened. Fast forward a year and John returns to campus to co-facilitate the same workshop. Katie is exhausted and grumpy after just watching the Cubs defeat the Indians in the 2016 World Series the night before. John helps Katie clean up after the event and Katie finds this trait very appealing ... and wonders if he's lingering for other reasons. Katie has to rush to another meeting but that night, has an email from John waiting in her work inbox asking if she would want to grab a drink sometime soon because he is interested in "hearing a little more about the work you're doing with the kids and life outside the university" (direct quote). Katie and John decide to meet for the aforementioned drink the following Tuesday ... Election Night 2016. Sitting next to a not-so-subtle giant TV at a local restaurant, Katie and John talked for hours while trying very hard to ignore the election results and any political topics. The rest is history.

The Proposal

On a quiet spring (what felt like winter) 2018 morning, John asked Katie to take him on a tour of Katie's alma mater, Denison University, as Katie was a proud tour guide while studying there. After grabbing warm drinks and amazing bagels at Katie's favorite coffee house, she decided to give John the "true Denison experience." This meant parking in the town of Granville to climb the hill to the university. Katie spent almost two hours meandering around campus, a campus in which one can easily move from one end to the other in five minutes, telling John every fact and story she could recall. Little did she know, John had other plans and was not paying attention one bit! At the end of the tour, John asked Katie to take a picture in front of Swasey Chapel, the iconic image of Denison. After posing together for the photo, John turned to Katie and asked an important question. After an, "oh my gosh are you kidding me?" Katie said "yes!" and later realized the "photo" was really a video recording of the proposal. John and Katie celebrated with some local beers and Whit's Frozen Custard, all the while smiling until their faces hurt. We are so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you! We look forward to seeing you in Wooster on June 22, 2019!
