Flight
If choosing to fly directly in or out of San Luis Obispo Airport, connecting flights through Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, San Francisco or Los Angels, are recommended from the Midwest/East Coast. If possible, avoid flying through Dallas, for our Midwest friends. Dallas is a good option from the East Coast. Be sure to check the layover time, as some flight times are tight, and any delay may cause you to miss your connection.
Rental Car
If you are looking to enjoy the California highway 101 scenic route, we recommend driving (if within driving distance) or flying into the airports below and driving part of the way. Santa Barbara Airport (SBA): Santa Barbara is approximately 1.5 hours from San Luis Obispo, and taking the back roads (Highway 154) will allow for more wine tasting and sightseeing. San Francisco Airport (SFO) and Los Angeles Airport (LAX): Both are roughly 3 hours from San Luis Obispo and provide more flight options and a beautiful drive up or down Highway 101. If you have never driven through Big Sur, we highly recommend adding this to one leg of your trip!
