In the summer of 2023, fate and Dil Mil brought Regina and Justin together. Justin was heading to NYC for a few days before flying to Europe. Just before his flight, he matched with Regina. After a few lighthearted exchanges, Justin asked her to dinner on Thursday night while he was in town. Thursday arrived, but there was one problem, Justin hadn’t followed up to confirm a time or place. Regina, unimpressed, debated whether to message him or just let this go. Luckily, her coworker Stefanie gave her some wise advice: “Either take a chance at being happy and message him, or don’t and potentially miss out.” Regina took her advice and reached out. Justin responded immediately, confirming their plans. Their first date was set: a warm July evening at Barbounia in New York City. Justin had spent the afternoon with his cousins, while Regina arrived straight from work. Any first-date jitters quickly disappeared as their conversation flowed effortlessly with no awkward pauses, no forced small talk, just an instant connection. Hours passed unnoticed until chairs were being flipped onto tables around them. Despite the amazing night, the reality was Justin was only in town until Sunday before heading to Europe for three weeks. Regina hoped to see him once more before he left, but their schedules didn’t align. With Justin living in San Francisco, she assumed this was just a fleeting moment, a great date, a lovely memory, but nothing more. Then, while in Europe, Justin sent a simple message: “Thinking of you. Hope you have a great day!” That small gesture changed everything. When he returned, they had their first phone call. That one call turned into another, and then another till August became a blur of late-night conversations that stretched until morning. Their record? Over eight hours on the phone. A few weeks later, Regina was in Los Angeles and casually mentioned to Justin that she was on his coast. Without hesitation, they made plans. They spent time together in Santa Monica and Malibu, and just like that, the spark from New York was reignited stronger than ever. Even when Regina left for Portugal shortly after, their connection never wavered. Despite time zones and packed schedules, they made time to talk every single day. When Regina returned, Justin flew back to New York just a few days later for a weekend of unforgettable dates. That weekend, they both realized this was different. From that moment on, their story was no longer about fleeting moments or chance encounters. It became a story of two people, across cities and time zones, choosing each other.
