Our Love Story

Brownwood, TX September 20th 2016

We met on a Tuesday in a Sherwin Williams Paint Store. I had already placed my two week notice at the hospital where i was working nights as a labor and delivery nurse. l was planning on moving Saturday to Alabama... leaving Texas for good and figured i'd paint the door a nice pop before listing it. I saw Cory for the first time behind the counter while I was looking at paint swatches. He offered to help me look at my pinterest and I was instantly smitten that he knew his way around a pinterest board. He mentioned how much he loved the fact I picked a navy and wasn't doing red that seemed to be a trend around town. I also noticed he wasn't wearing a wedding band. While i was waiting for my vehicle to get finished up; I overheard Cory talking on the phone to someone that it was his birthday today and he didn't have any plans when he got off work. After he got off the phone I left my business card and told him to text me if he wanted plans tonight. I insisted that he shouldn't be alone for his birthday and we should go out after he got off at 7. He showed up at my house on his motorcycle and brought me a complimentary sample of the navy blue paint for my front door. I fed him pork chops, green beans and pumpernickel toast for his birthday dinner and we played darts in my garage till midnight. He realized he only brought his tinted visor helmet and we were concerned about poor visibility, so I offered him to drive my audi and leave his motorcycle in the garage and we would trade back the next day. He was completely caught off guard that we had just met and i was refusing him to allow him to drive his motorcycle home in the dark with a tinted visor. But I surprisingly had no concerns about trusting him and we kissed each other bye and he left with my audi. The next morning the motorcycle helmet on my kitchen counter was the only thing that allowed me to believe meeting him and our incredible night wasn't just a dream. I called the hospital and revoked my two week notice that morning. Work was thrilled but my mom was so bummed. I met his 5 year old baby girl, Aislyn, for the first time a month later and we moved in together just shy of 2 months. We started our catastrophe insurance adjusting business together the following year and he left Sherwin Williams. After two years of running our insurance adjusting business we sold his comanche property and continued renovating my brownwood home, now our home, in between storming. We were deployed on a hurricane in Houston, TX when I shared with him that I was unexpectedly pregnant by altering one of his roof sketches he was working on. I typed at the top " We are pregnant!" We were ecstatic and told our families and announced to the world we were expecting by dressing up as a house wife and milkman for Halloween in October 2019. Our son Atlas was born on Earth day 4/22/2020 while the world was shut down during the pandemic. We continued chasing storms with our now 3 month old in our camper and built our life as a new family on and off the road. Cory proposed to me by the lake on his parent's property in May 2022 with our 2 year old running around in the grass and surprised me with painted drift wood along the bank that read "Marry Me" with the ring we picked out together while working our Kansas snow storm the prior Christmas. We picked a 2.00 carat stunning Asscher cut and affectionally have named the ring "Kansas" because without that storm she would have been a little smaller. :) We renovated our Brownwood home on River Oaks with the blue door and sold it to move to Comanche for a couple of years. We are now loving full time RV life while we look for land. Colorado is special to us because it's our first storm we worked together! We decided to get married in a castle because Becka grew up in Germany an always pictured her wedding being at a castle. Not only is my wedding day out of a fairy tale but so is the rare love I found in that paint store so many years ago.
