Hannover Downtown is a great place to visit and is about one hour away from Osterode am Harz. Feel free to stroll through the city center and enjoy some good food and shopping. The city also offers a nice lake to walk around (Maschsee) as well as a great (botanical) Garden experience (Herrenhäuser Gärten).
Braunschweig (or Brunswick) is an amazing town similar to Hannover and about 50 minutes away from Osterode am Harz. This city has some great food and shopping opportunities in the Brunswick Castle and nearby downtown pedestrian zone.
Feel free to take a stroll through the small city center with very traditional timbered houses. Note that the city center is, like many downtown areas, a pedestrian zone. So park your car nearby and enjoy a nice walk!
Who doesn't like a good castle when visiting Germany? Ashley and Felix spent some time here during Ashley’s Germany visit. This castle is about one hour away from Osterode am Harz and was built in the 19th century, definitely worth a visit.
The Harz Mountains is a beautiful national park that offers a great variety of hiking opportunities. This destination leads you to the Oderteich, a nice lake, which could be a great starting point for a hike through nature.
