It was summer of 2020. Paige had recently joined a "book club" and Rob was just trying to entertain himself without any live sports events to attend. Enter... a night out enjoying live (socially distanced) music on the patio at The Farmhouse. Rob offered to buy Paige a glass of wine, to which she answered that she would love a bottle, sealing their fate that an official first date would ensue. It was just a few short weeks later when Rob tried to flip Paige out of a golf cart and she laughed it off that he knew it was time for her to meet the family... at his cousin's wedding, of course. Thus began the first of many weekend trips and new adventures together. Paige and Rob found it hard to believe that they'd gone through all 4 (and a little more) years of school at Virginia Tech and post-grad Blacksburg life without running into each other. How is that possible for two people that equally loved The Cellar, El Mariachi, and Hokie tailgates?! Maybe it was because all of their spare time was spent on opposite ends of town, with Rob golfing at Blacksburg Country Club and Paige teaching at Dance.tech. Fortunately they've figured out a way to combine their separate interests. Paige is happy to wait for Rob to finish up a round, hanging out at the BCC pool. Almost as happy as Rob is to be one of the stars of The Nutcracker ballet. In Fall of 2021 the two love birds added a very special little guy to the family. While chatting with friends and enjoying a beverage or two at Chicken Hill, they were shown a picture of a pup named Jake. During a particularly rough week for Paige at work, Rob decided that Jake should come to stay for a "trial run". Well, he's been living it up as an only dog child ever since.
It's no mystery that Rob is the go with the flow one of the relationship, so he shocked everyone by planning the most epic public proposal imaginable. Paige had been hinting for a few months, even sharing a Pinterest board with ring ideas to Rob's sister, Alix. Little did Paige know that those two had something up their sleeve. Paige and Rob had planned for their families to finally meet in November 2022. The Hokies were playing UVA in Blacksburg over Thanksgiving, and it seemed like the perfect scenario for everyone to get to know each other. When the football game was cancelled, and Paige's family considered not coming down to the 'burg at all, Rob thought his secret scheme was foiled. Fortunately Paige's job provided the perfect cover. Dance.tech was performing at the halftime show of the Minnesota basketball game that upcoming Monday. Rob called her mom, Eileen, and told her of his plan to propose. When Monday rolled around, Paige was in go-mode, stressing about the dance performance, making sure her mom and step-dad, Bob, were enjoying themselves, and coordinating letting Jake out. It was the ideal scenario for Rob's own version of stressing to go unnoticed. To top it all off, the marketing team from VT athletics had emailed Paige asking if they could honor her as a Community Youth Leader during the game. She was ecstatic to surprise her mom with the honor. Spoiler alert: it was a FAKE award. The performance went flawlessly and Paige was thrilled to return to center court to surprise her mom. She looked up into the stands and but didn't see Rob, immediately texting him that it was time for the award, get down to their seats! As she accepted a bouquet of flowers from the Hokie Bird himself, Paige was flattered by the thunderous applause. She figured it must be her sweet studio families. Then the HB stepped away and she did a double-take. Was that Rob behind her? Was he down on his knee?! Did he have the most gorgeous ring in his hand?!?! Both Rob and Paige were shaking with too much adrenaline to say anything. They barely got the ring on her finger. After returning to the stands to celebrate with their parents, the whole crew headed to Bull & Bones to continue the fun. It was there that Paige found out that Rob had texted their closest friends that morning. Many were able to make it to the game to watch the proposal in-person and others tuned in to watch the footage on ESPN. The most special moment was shared with their favorite people!
