In the rodeo community there is nothing that compliments a cowboy better than his horse. Along with being the funnest person I met, getting to marry my best friend has been a dream come true. On January 28th 2015 I went to a house party in Altus with my friend Mary Frances. After being there for a little Mary told me to come meet her good friend “nine.” While walking to the balcony I was thinking to myself “why on earth would someone name there child ‘Nine’”. I walked out the door and was greeted by an infectious smile. I sat down next to him and never moved until we left around 2 am. I felt I had found the coolest person in the world. So when I got home I did what any girl would do. I got on Facebook only to discover there was no ‘Nine Holliday’ I quickly texted Mary only to discover his name was Peyton. Flash forward a few months going to college rodeos. It was April in Hays, KS I was warming up my barrel horse when I see this beautiful bay horse with mane past his neck and it was split down the middle. His feet and bone were just huge and I remember thinking that is the coolest head horse Iv ever seen. Noticing it was Peyton I immediately walked up and talked to him. We exchanged numbers that weekend and talked maybe once a week Come June I was in Vegas for a barrel race and I was talking to Peyton. I told him “you could always come fly into Vegas and drive me home” little did I know he would get on a plane in Oklahoma and be in Vegas the following day to drive me back to Reno. Now Of course if we have to drive two miles you can bet he will not be the one driving. Fast forward from several Rodeos, miles, bar trips, vacation and fun. On September 10th Peyton asked me to be his wife. He has brought the greatest joy into my life and just when I think I couldn’t love him more he shows me that I can.
On September 10th 2018, Peyton asked me to come ride horses with him. We went a few times around the pasture when Peyton proceeded to tell me he lost his knife. ( a very expensive custom knife his sister had made, that he had just found two weeks prior, from loosing it for 3 months) I sat on my horse telling him he shouldn’t carry it if he’s going to keep loosing it. He kindly asked me to get off my horse and help him look. I refused and continued to grill him. He smiled at me a says you’re really not going to get off and help me find my knife? I finally get off cricket and as I’m glazing the ground I spin around to find Peyton on one knee asking for my hand in marriage. It was right at sunset and took me by surprise. Of course I said yes.
