Proposal

[Tony’s Version] 07/21

2022: 2022 was the year I had sworn up and down that the ring was coming. Alyssa had asked me in early 2021 if I was serious, and that that time, I was. I’ve never given her a reason to think I was lying so she said “ok” and that was kind of the last time she asked about it. Fast forward to May of 2021. It was during the Zalar wedding that I realized I simply cannot wait another year to propose, that it had to be this [2021] year and quickly. I got ahold of my best friend, Zach, and his wife, Summer, and told them the plan was for our annual couples vacation to Virginia. The ring was purchased a few days later, and all that was left to do was wait. Everyone asks, “Did Alyssa have any idea?” No. She didn’t have a clue. Lyss was showing me ring ideas on our way to Virginia. She always says, “Look at my nails in the pictures, I didn’t have a clue.” Her nails were a neon green and blue. The day of the proposal, we got ready in the morning and the four of us headed to Veritas Vineyards in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a place we had been before. It was after our lunch that we took pictures in the vineyard, and it was there, with the gorgeous mountains behind us that I whispered in her “Let’s do this” and as she asked “What? What am I doing?”while turning toward me, she saw me on my knee with her ring in a small velvet box. “No, you’re not” were the first words out of her mouth and the rest will remain a treasured memory of mine for the rest of my life.
