BUB: It was a cold night in November and winter was looming so I went on Bumble and swiped right on a beautiful neuroscientist. After waiting a few days, I had given up hope but then she returned the right swipe and we started chatting. We bonded over our mutual love of animals, veggie food, getting outside, and exploring the world. I was so excited (and nervous) to meet her, and when we finally met up, I couldn't believe how well we got along. We met at a bar in DC on an absolutely frigid night in early December and had such a great time together that we stayed until they closed. When it was time to say goodnight, I was too nervous to go in for a kiss, but couldn't wait to see her again, so I made sure to line up date #2 later that same night. A few dates later (and with the help of my secret weapon, a household bunny named Johnathan Basil), we were goin' steady - the rest is history!
RACHEL: We were staying in an incredible open-air treehouse deep in the Balinese jungle and I had finally started to embrace the minimalist life after the airline lost my luggage. On our last day in the jungle, we hiked down to a secret waterfall attached to the property. Bub let me set the pace and stayed behind, which I thought was very sweet (if you know Bub, he is usually racing ahead on hikes). In retrospect, I realize he was 1) trying to conceal a rather bulky box in his windbreaker pocket, and 2) totally freaking out. We arrived at the waterfall and had to cross the rapids with the help of a rope to get the best view of the falls. Bub scampered in first to test the depth of the water and I waded in behind him, distracted by the thigh-deep water. When we arrived on the opposite bank, he spun around, somehow with the box already open, and asked me to marry him. I was totally caught off guard and believe my response was "OH MY GOD, REALLY!!!???" but the "yes" was implied. ;-)
