Thirteen Years of Patience

Her Story

Colten and I met thirteen years ago at a high school party. We both had crushes on each other, but we never told each other or pursued it. Six months ago on a Sunday afternoon, I found myself telling my dad about something that I read that just stuck with me; “Sometimes your soulmate doesn’t live just down the street, sometimes they live in another state”. About an hour later, I noticed this random guy on Instagram had liked one of my old pictures, so of course I went and creeped on him too. I quickly realized that it was my long lost high school crush. I went ahead and messaged him, and we started talking nonstop. I found out that he was living in Colorado, but wanted to fly down to take me on a date. A little later, I asked him why he liked such an old picture, and he said he had actually been talking to his friend about me! He said he always thought that I was so beautiful, and if he ever had the chance to date me, then he would marry me ❤️ Fast-forward a month later and we moved in together, at two months he started to build my engagement ring, and now at six months we are engaged! When you know you know.

His story

So this story started when Rachel and I met 13 years ago at a high school party. Fast forward through life, the ups and downs, twists and turns. I found myself sometimes curious about where she went and what not. One day a buddy and I were sitting just talking about random things and I happened to be looking at Instagram and saw Rachel posted a picture. I had to like it obviously and I did since I had been for probably a year to that point. I started scrolling through her Instagram and saw a old picture I had to like. I was standing next to my buddy and I go “look at this girl. If I ever had a chance I would marry her” we started laughing and didn’t think much past that. I was working and what not and just happened to open Instagram and saw I had a message. She had messaged me just kinda saying hey and seeing how i was. So once i messaged her back we talked for hours and hours writing paragraphs (we don’t do that) so I knew at that point it was something special. After 1 day I decided I wanted to ask her on a date and I did so I decided I would fly back from Colorado and take her on a date. We went on a date on a Monday evening and talked all night knowing I had a 5am flight back to Colorado and she had to be up for work early in the morning. That evening I felt something that I had never ever felt before and I knew about 3 hours in to the date that I wanted to marry her and there wasn’t a doubt in my mind about it. We got home and I decided I wanted to come back the next weekend and hang out with her, so I did. Week or 2 later I decided I was moving back from Colorado. Two months or so later I decided it was time to start building her ring and so I did. She had no idea that I was even in the process of it. I just wanted it to be a huge surprise for her. Jump to 6 months after we started dating and now I am engaged to the most wonderful, amazing, thoughtful, funny, caring woman on earth. To take her words “when you know you know”
