Question

I’ve never been to an Indian wedding before. What should I expect?

Answer

Traditionally, Indian weddings tend to be large and span over a couple of days. Although each region of India has its own specific customs, the general concept is the same – it’ll be a Big Fat Indian Wedding, filled with vibrant colors, music, and plenty of food and dancing. Although family members and close friends may have a role, the remainder of the guests are invited to sit back and enjoy.

Question

I have never been to an indian wedding, what should I wear?

Answer

All events are cocktail or cocktail casual attire. Stay whimsical, festive, and fun with your choices! Yes, you can wear Indian clothes to all or some of the events. We LOVE to see you embrace our culture in this way. No, you do not have to wear Indian clothes. However, we encourage you to go bright and bold with your American outfits! All bright, celebratory colors are welcome! We only ask that you generally avoid white or black. Black suits are fine! Question

What is a baraat and can I join in?

Answer

You may have seen Indian wedding clips of a groom riding on an elephant or a horse and may be wondering why is everyone dancing in the parking lot? This magical event is called the Baraat. Historically, the groom and his family and friends would travel from their village, singing and dancing, to the bride's village. When the groom's caravan reaches the bride's home, everyone celebrates and dances in excitement for the next part of the groom's life's. For our baraat, both the bride and groom's side will sing and dance together in one unified celebration.

Question

So what happens during the wedding ceremony?

Answer

The ceremony will begin with the bride's family performing a prayer with the groom. The bride will make her entrance following the ceremony. Traditionally a Hindu wedding ceremony can last hours, but we've condensed it to about an hour of our most meaningful traditions all which are conducted around a small fire. We will be providing a detailed program when you arrive that will help you follow along!

Question

What if I have to get up or walk around during the ceremony?

Answer

Hindu ceremonies are mostly informal so feel free to get up to move around or grab refreshments as needed. Try not to miss too much of the action!

Question

I'm nervous to try spicy, Indian food!

Answer

We often say that the best part of an Indian wedding is the food. There will be a wide variety of dishes at each of the events. The food will be served buffet style, so that guests will have the option to choose what they’d like to eat. We will keep the spice level down with the option to spice things up! We'll request information on dietary restrictions when we send out the invites.

Question

Is there transportation to and from the hotels to the ceremony?

Answer

We recommend Uber or Lyft. There will be a large parking lot at Moonstone Manor if you wish to drive yourself. Please remember to stay safe after the wedding!

Question

What about COVID?

Answer

The health of each of you and your loved ones are what matters most to us. The majority of the events will take outdoors. We will have outdoor seating available to those who want it. Just let us know if that's your preference!
