London Heathrow is the UK's largest airport with a wide selection of flights from around the world. CARS AND TAXIS Rental cars are available at the airport, and the drive from Heathrow to Hanbury Manor is about 1 hour. Several different taxi services operate in Heathrow, though they will be best suited to travel into London rather than out to Hanbury Manor PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION Heathrow Airport is connected to the London Underground system via the Piccadilly line. This offers reliable and inexpensive transport from the airport to almost any destination within London - please see the section on the London Underground for more information about travelling throughout the city.

Flight

Gatwick Airport

Gatwick Airport is London's secondary airport located just south of the city and may provide less expensive or more flight options depending on your origin location. Rental cars are available, and Gatwick is about an hour and 15 minutes drive from Hanbury Manor

Train

Ware (Herts)

Ware (Herts) is the closest rail station to Hanbury Manor and is a short 10 minute taxi or car journey to the hotel. This station is serviced by the Greater Anglia line originating at London Liverpool Street Station. London Liverpool can be accessed from both airports using the London Underground, or by a combination of the Underground and the Heathrow Express (from Heathrow Airport only). Please note that there are no direct Underground lines from either airport to London Liverpool, so you will need to change lines depending on your origin airport. You also may utilize London's taxi and black cab services or Uber ridesharing to get from the airport to the train station, though taxi prices from the airport to the train station may be high depending on your time of travel. You may purchase train tickets either in advance from the website linked below ("view" button), or on the day of travel from ticket booths in London Liverpool station. Once you arrive in Ware, there are several local taxi services that you may use for last leg transport to the venue. You may book a trip in advance for a certain time, or call when you arrive at the station for immediate service. Train

Stevenage

Stevenage Train Station is slightly farther from Hanbury Manor than Ware Station above, but may provide better options for your specific journey. Kings Cross Station in London provides service via the Thameslink line to Stevenage (about a 45 minute duration). From Stevenage, a taxi to Hanbury Manor is under 30 minutes and will cost around £30. Cars and Taxis in the UK

TAXIS AND RIDESHARING Taxi services are available from a variety of different service providers throughout London and the surrounding countryside including Ware. While some taxi services accept card payments, cash is generally preferred. Within London you may use Uber with good availability, as well as many local taxi services and the famous London black cabs (which are now fully electric!) Unfortunately, Uber or other ridesharing services are typically not available outside of central London and should not be relied on for transport in the countryside including Ware and Hertfordshire. This means that the direction of travel is the left-hand side of the road and the vehicle's steering wheel will be on the right side of the car. Furthermore, UK public infrastructure is less car-focused than in the US, making parking and negotiating traffic occasionally challenging to drivers new to the country. Please also be aware petrol (gasoline) prices will be higher than in the US. Please check the company websites for specific booking information. IMPORTANT: Most cars sold in the UK are manual or standard-shift transmissions - if you are not comfortable driving a standard shift vehicle (and remember also you will be shifting with your left hand) please make sure to specifically request an automatic from the rental company.

UK Public Transport

We are confident you will find the public transport service in London and surrounding areas, as well as the UK in general, to be a reliable and inexpensive option for travel both locally and country-wide. Due to generally higher driving costs and differences in road laws you may find public transport to be a preferable option to renting your own car. This section includes information about various methods of public transport in the UK in order to make your journey as quick, easy, and inexpensive as possible. TRAINS UK rail is a reliable, quick, and pleasant way to travel longer distances throughout the country. The UK government has conveniently created a centralized train journey booking service at https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/. This site may be used to purchase advance train tickets for journeys throughout the entire country, though they may redirect you to a specific service provider's website during the purchasing process. You may also purchase train tickets on the day of travel from ticket kiosks at the station. If you are interested in taking multiple train services during your visit, or travelling to other destinations within the country, it may be economical to purchase a "railcard." Railcards when purchased offer a discount on train tickets (typically 20-30%) throughout their active period (typically one year). There are a variety of different railcard options depending on factors like age and student status.
